Approach

A Non-Diet, Real Life Approach

You know your body best. My goal is to provide you with evidence-based, compassionate support so that you can develop eating patterns that promote all aspects of your health and well-being. Healthy eating shouldn’t cause stress, guilt, or anxiety, so I take a non-diet, real life approach. Together, we can develop strategies to get you more in tune with your body, feel confident in the food choices you’re making, and promote your overall health. As a clinician and expert in medical nutrition therapy, I use evidence-based research and a goal-oriented path to guide you to your healthiest you. Providing you with an individualized, personalized and non-diet approach, my role is to empower you and help you investigate and determine why certain foods in your life may be causing issues. Whether it’s problems with your gut and digestion, your cholesterol or blood sugars, reaching a healthy weight or lack of energy and bounce, I’ll help you determine how to make general healthy lifestyle changes.

My Background

Extensive Clinical and Private Practice Experience

I have over 20 years of clinical and private practice experience, yet I’m always learning by staying up-to-date on the latest nutrition and health literature and through my clients and their experiences. I love what I do and enjoy applying science to real life! I graduated from the University of Guelph with an Honours Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Applied Human Nutrition. As a longstanding member of the Dietitians of Canada, I am regulated by the College of Dietitians Ontario, a licensing body that requires me to maintain continuing education, adhere to standards of practice, and stay relevant on the latest research
and information in nutrition and health. Outside of work you’ll find me spending time with family and friends. I enjoy cooking and baking, (I admit, I am a wannabe foodie) and I’m always looking for healthy, tasty recipes. I also love ice cream, chocolate and a good BBQ burger with homemade fries.

What’s the difference between a Dietitian and other nutrition professionals?

A Registered Dietitian is a nutritionist who has a degree in nutrition sciences and health from an accredited university and is governed by a provincial regulatory body. The title Nutritionist is not protected and does not require any special training or education. There’s a rumor out there that Dietitians only counsel based on the food guide – so far from the truth! We take every aspect of your lifestyle, medical history and activity into account to give you customized guidance to reach your goal.

What is nutrition coaching?

Nutrition coaches work with clients to facilitate healthy eating behaviors and empower their clients to take responsibility for their own health. Achieving your health, fitness and weight loss goals is not a quick fix or a one-time event, but rather a lifelong journey. A nutrition coach can provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to make positive behavior changes that last a lifetime.

What is Medical Nutrition Therapy?

Medical Nutrition Therapy is an evidence-based medical approach to treating certain chronic conditions through the use of an individually-tailored nutrition plan. Registered Dietitians are the only accredited professionals that have the education and expertise to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy.
